Set hundreds of years before the ninja of Ninjago were born, the series presents a young master Wu and a young Lord Garmadon and their character development during a journey their father sent them on.

The story shows the link between the present and the past, and proves that the division between good and evil is not always obvious.

When a powerful sandstorm catches Wu and Garmadon in the middle of the desert, they are lucky enough to find shelter inside an ancient pyramid. As soon as they step in, the door behind them suddenly shuts. The brothers get trapped inside the tomb that turns out to be the home of the mighty Sphinx. Getting out of the ancient trap will be a true challenge for the young ninja.
